Tesla Model Y L - Not Just Bigger, Better!

The new 2027 Tesla Model Y L is an extended, long-wheelbase three-row electric SUV that is exactly 7 inches longer than the standard Model Y. Priced from $63,380 for the Premium Launch Series, it features a mandatory six-seat layout with second-row captain's chairs, an 83 kWh battery, and 325 miles of range.

Note, Tesla has said that the Model Y L launch edition may be selling out soon!
Dimensions and Exterior Changes
  • Stretched Body: Overall length increases by 7 inches, with 6 extra inches added directly to the wheelbase (now over 3,040 mm). It stands slightly taller to maximize interior headroom.
  • Design Tweaks: Features updated Juniper-style LED light bars, a redesigned C-pillar, aerodynamic wheel options (19-inch or 20-inch), and a heat-reflecting triple-silver-coated glass roof. With the launch edition also comes unique badging, a launch edition puddle light and a rear spoiler with integrated tail light.
Interior and Seating Layout
  • Six-Passenger Configuration: Standard 2+2+2 setup featuring power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated second-row captain’s chairs.
  • Second-Row Tech: Includes an 8-inch rear touch screen for climate and entertainment management.
  • Third Row: Offers dedicated legroom and headroom suited better for adults than the cramped optional jump seats in standard models, though the low floor creates a somewhat "knees-up" seating position.
  • Cargo Limitations: Trunk space directly behind the third row is tight (roughly 20 inches deep), but folding both rear rows flat expands total volume to 89 cubic feet.
Performance and Battery Specs
  • Battery & Range: Equipped with an 83 kWh NMC battery pack delivering an EPA-estimated 325 miles of range on 19-inch wheels (320 miles on 20-inch wheels).
  • Power & Acceleration: Dual-motor all-wheel drive produces 496 horsepower, enabling a 0–60 mph sprint in 4.4 seconds. We we think it will end up faster given the 100+hp increase over a model Y premium.
  • Charging: Supports up to 250 kW DC fast charging via NACS, capable of adding 164 miles of range in 15 minutes.
Ride and Technology
  • Comfort Suspension: Comes standard with specially tuned adaptive dampening shocks for a much smoother, quieter ride than standard Model Y variants.
  • FSD Included: Initial Launch Series models bundle 12 months of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software.

Opinion: We think the launch edition is worth it if you were already going to go with some of the included options, like a special color, the 20 inch wheels, a tow hitch, and possible the lighter interior color. All free on the launch edition, but extra cost if ordering a standard vehicle.
